Does size matter?

Of course not! I love all these beads, from the tiny ones (almost 1/4 inch) to gigantic (1 1/8 inch).
The smallest beads are made of Christmas wrapping paper, the black/white ones of copypaper with some black paint, the khaki-green ones are made of a Coronation Street calender, the black ones are made of copypaper I painted black, the purple ones used to be a Madonna calender , and the green and red beads started their lives as a Pokemon book (don't ask) that I painted.

Now all I need to do is think of a fun project to use them in.

La-la-la-lariat

A necklace you can't do up, how is that a good thing? Well let me tell you...

A lariat-style necklace is a long necklace without a clasp, that you can think of as a scarf. Let it hang loose, wrap it around your neck once or twice, put a simple knot it in like you would tie your shoe and decide whether you want that knot high or low, fold it in half and feed the ends through the loop, you could even wear it around your waist or as a hair accessory. A six-or-maybe-even-more-in-one necklace that gives you all the freedom to create a new look every time you wear it.

This lariat was created by combining glass beads and khaki, off-white and dark purple paper beads. The paper beads were made from a Coronation Street calender, were hand rolled and have been sealed twice. They are water resistant, but not waterproof, so please do not wear in the shower!

Want it? Buy it!

Blue

(and a bit of green and a bit of red and even a bit of white).

This necklace is 21" long and is made out of.. you guessed it... paper beads! They were made out of a film poster, which is why they are not all the same colour.

Please look here for more information and purchase.

Art Journal 6, a flip-through

Last summer, I bought what I later turned into Art Journal no. 6, at a car boot sale. It's one of those small Observer books, and it was my very first altered book.

I glued three, sometimes four pages together, making them strong enough for wet media, but in some cases too stiff for the spine. Lesson learned: next time I will take some pages out before glueing pages together so they will have more space.

The book is so tiny it fits in my hand, which took me a bit to get used to, but half way through I loved it! I had thought of taking the book with me on my trip back to Holland for Christmas, but knowing I would not have that much time to journal anyway, I decided to journal about my trip after the fact.

Now, Mats is my cousin's bull mastiff, and Efteling is a magical place, a fairytale themepark. I worked in one of the park's restaurants for a while, and absolutely love it there. They close after October only to open up for the Christmas holidays, turning the park into a winter wonderland before the next season which starts April 1st. If you ever go to Holland, and get to spend some time in the South, I highly recommend going!

I'm slightly behind on the March Art Journal Challenge, but will catch up within the next couple of days and promise I will take pictures as I go along. Honest!

Good to know!

Black and white

What is better than a paper bead necklace? TWO paper bead necklaces!

These two knotted paper bead necklaces compliment each other: one is made of white waxed cotton and black beads, the other made of black waxed cotton and white beads.
You can wear them together, or separate and they would look great on a white top or a black one, or a black and white one.

The necklace made of white waxed cotton is 34 inches (or 43 cm.) long, the one made of black waxed cotton is 31 inches (or 79 cm.) long.

The paper beads were all hand painted, then cut and rolled and each bead got two layers of varnish to seal them.

And the best thing? They could be yours! Head on over to my ArtFire shop Timeless.

Corey Haim

Things are going great in showbizzzzz-land. I just heard through Twitter that Corey Haim has died. An accidental overdosis, says the LAPD....

Growing up at our home, Corey was best known as the young boy in The Lost Boys who finds out his brother is a vampire, but he also played in Stephen King's Silver Bullet and of course in Lucas, in which he plays a boy who falls in love with a girls who is out of his league. With his crooked smile and dimples he was so cute! A real heart-throb.

According to his biograpyh on IMDB he started drinking during the filming of Lucas and smoked his first joint during The Lost Boys. A year and a half after that he was doing coke and a year and a half after that he was on crack. He then got addicted to valium and suffered a drug-indused stroke from taking up to 85 a day.

The last time I saw him on a cover of a DVN was when Lost Boys,The Tribe came out, but I wasn't interested at all. Love the original, can't be bothered with a sequal. According to IMDB there was a lot of projects Corey had lined up, but they will have to find someone else now.. Drugs suck!

March Art Journaling Challenge, day 4

Today's prompt was 'Doodle'. Now, that sounds easy, and it is, if you have some real doodles laying around. Unfortunately, I don't have a day-job at the moment that has me doodling on pieces of paper while I am stuck in meetings or talking to clients on the phone. And I don't have all that many long talks on the phone while at home. If I do, and it's while talking to my family in Holland, we're on Skype and I don't doodle during those conversations.

The 'problem' is that when you say 'I'll go and do some doodling', it's not really doodling at all! A doodle in my mind is something you scribble while doing something else. You're not paying any attention at what you're doing, you're making shapes and connecting them without even realising you're doing it. If you set out to 'do some doodling', you're drawing and not doodling...

Anywayyysss.. here are my pictures for today. Only a few of these are actual doodles, made during the ad-breaks while watching Grey's Anatomy...

It's not too late to join the fun!

March Art Journaling Challenge, day 3

The prompt was Blue, as you can see...

March Art Journaling Challenge, day 1

Yayyy it's March, which means the March Art Journaling Challenge has started!

Over on Artjournaling.ning Leslie from Comfortable Shoes Studio is giving us daily Art Journaling prompts. And I know that as I'm writing this it's already March 3rd, but that doesn't mean that you can't join the fun anymore!

The Challenge is all about doing some daily work in your Art Journal. You don't have to finish a spread a day, even if you just open up your book and do a little corner, or even just think about the prompt, as long as you do something Art Journal related with the prompt.

Right now there are 96 members in this one workshop, and it would be absolutely brilliant to get to a 100 before the end of the month! Oh, and did I mention it is FREE? Yeahhh!!

Here is what I've done on Day 1. The prompt was 'Start your engines' and truth be told, I have no idea where I'm going with this page just yet, but I'm sure I'll think of something before the end of the month.
